BERHAMPUR: A Maoist cadre Toofan Sahu (19) alias Mithun surrendered before the Ganjam SP at Chhatrapur on Thursday.

Toofan was a close associate of top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda and belonged to Gangapur village under Badagada police limits.

SP Rajesh Pandit said Toofan worked with the Gumusar division and Bansadhara division of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit.

He added that the cadre surrendered after he found the outfit deviating from the  ideology. “Exploitation of cadres by the leaders was the primary reason which forced Toofan to quit the outfit,” the SP said.
