JEYPORE: Jeypore Police have started investigation into the alleged destruction of Ekamaba-Umuri canal under Upper Kolab project by an engineering college.
The incident came to light on Tuesday.
A police team led by Jeypore Sadar police station IIC RP Deuri visited the spot and recorded statements of locals, on Thursday. “We inquired and found that the canal system in Umuri has indeed been destroyed. The college has been asked to submit documents related to the land and action would be initiated on the return of its chairman,” said Deuri. The canal system irrigated over 250 acres in Umuri and Ekamba panchayats.
Meanwhile, Jeypore SDPO U R Dash reviewed the situation amidst growing resentment among the locals seeking immediate action against the culprits.
