Vigilance raids ‘Crorepati’ SE

BHUBANESWAR: The State Vigilance cracked down on a senior engineer of the Public Health Engineering Organisation (PHEO) and a clerical staffer of the CHSE on Saturday and unearthed huge assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. Surendra Kumar Mohanty, Superintending Engineer (SE), Design, with PHEO, was found possessing assets close to ` 1 crore.

 The Vigilance searched his premises in Bhubaneswar and Khurda and found him possessing three vehicles valued at ` 14.8 lakh, gold ornaments worth ` 10.6 lakh and deposits in banks, post offices and insurance firms estimated at ` 12 lakh. He also owns a building at Ananta Vihar in Pokhariput, a flat in Surya Complex, Suryanagar, besides a single-storey building at Gurujang. The fixed assets were estimated at ` 61 lakh.  Similarly, Nilamani Sethi, a senior assistant with the CHSE, was found accumulating wealth close to ` 45 lakh. His fixed assets, including two houses in the City, were valued at ` 35.65 lakh, the Vigilance said.
