RAYAGADA: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) allegedly committed suicide in the district sub-jail here on Sunday by slitting his throat with a blade. His body was found in a toilet.
Sources said Bisoi Majhi of Bodo Pukkali, under Kashipur police limits, was one among the 14 accused in the killing of one Rasi Majhi of the same village in November last. Rasi was killed over suspected witchcraft.
The Kashipur police had registered cases against all the accused, including three women, and accordingly, Bisoi was arrested on November 20.
Police said on Sunday morning, the jail authorities supplied shaving blades to all the jail inmates. After collecting his blade, Bisoi is learnt to have gone to the toilet.
When he did not come out for a long time, inmates suspected something foul and broke open the door only to find Bisoi lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit.
He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
