18 gram rakhis quit job

Following the killing of two gram rakhis by Maoists, fear has gripped the cut-off region, on the other side of the Chitrakonda reservoir, with many bidding farewell to the Khaki job. 

Jagabandhu Khilla of Jodamba and Manik Khilla of Handikhal village were gunned down by Maoists, a day after being abducted, for defying the latter’s whip to quit their job, sources said.

The village guards have become soft targets for the rebels who accuse them of tipping off the police about their movement.

In a letter to the media, 18 village guards have stated that they are resigning voluntarily apprehending threat to their lives.

However, police sources denied having received any letter from the gram rakhis.
