Criminals on prowl, one nabbed

Express News Service

Cocking a snook at the police, five criminals committed a series of loot between Pital College and Nalabanta village on NH-59 under Aska police limits on Friday night.

The five looted a gold chain and a mobile from one Sunil Kumar Dora of Bhanjanagar while he was returning from Berhampur in a car. They also looted cash, mobiles and ATM cards from two motorcyclists. The mini-truck driver whom they intercepted, however, fled with the vehicle key.

SDPO Alekha Chandra Pahi and IIC Sarat Chandra Buruda chased the miscreants, who were on two motorcycles.

While three fell down after their motorcycle skidded off the road and escaped into a sugarcane field taking advantage of darkness, two others met with an accident. One of them was nabbed by the locals and handed over to the police. He was admitted to Aska hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.

Meanwhile, the police have seized both the motorcycles, some gold ornaments and a revolver. The motorcycles were stolen from Bhanjanagar area, the police said, adding that two FIRs have been lodged and efforts are on to nab those absconding.
