Farmer attempts suicide

Express News Service

A farmer allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at Kabisuryanagar on Saturday. He has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition.

Reports said the farmer, Gantayat Swain (65), had raised vegetable crop in a Government land. The administration recently decided to construct a Kalyan Mandap on that patch of land and accordingly asked him to remove the crop. When the revenue official reached the spot on Saturday, Swain warned them against entering the land. When they paid no heed to him, he gulped a bottle of poison in front of them.
