The district medical authorities on Saturday seized three cartons of medicines dumped near Madikunda Square here.
Each carton had 24 strips with 50 tablets each, containing Folic Acid, Ferrous Sulphate and NFI (Large) government-supplied medicines, meant for pregnant women and thalassaemic patients. The Square is about 2 km from the district headquarters hospital.
The authorities could recover only 500 tablets with a manufacturing date of December 2011 and expiry, November 2013.
It is believed to be the handiwork of some anganwadi workers who were supplied with the stock for free distribution among pregnant women in their respective areas, the district health department sources said. The CDMO was unavailable for comment.
