In what may come as a boon to people with physical disabilities, particularly orthopaedically handicapped, a state-of-the-art Locomotor Rehabilitation Clinic was opened here on Wednesday.
Dr Panda Memorial Locomotor Rehabilitation Clinic was inaugurated by the editor of Sambad, Soumyaranjan Patnaik. It will provide orthopaedic aids and appliances for patients suffering from amputation, paralysis, polio and other crippling diseases.
Bringing latest technology and advances in prosthetics and orthotics, the clinic is the first in the State to introduce carbon fibre laminated appliances for the differently-abled.
“Patients from the State were forced to go to the metros for getting the hi-tech artificial limbs or calipers, incurring huge expenses and troubles in the process,” said Director A N Nanda.
“We have brought the very best to the people here at costs at least 30 to 40 per cent lower than that charged in the metros,” added A N Nanda.
The laboratory has been set up in technical collaboration with the German prosthetic and orthotics major Streifender College Park Industries, CEO Suman Panda said.
