Combating fine lines and wrinkles was never this easy, thanks to a new range of dermatological products and treatments being used across beauty salons and spas in the city. Oxygen facial or therapy is one such treatment that has made a difference by breathing fresh life into the skin and emerging as a hot favourite among the ladies.

According to beauty expert Sukriti Pattnaik of Indulge Salon, Pal Heights, oxygen therapy benefits the body with oxygen being pulsed deep into the skin. ‘’As we age, oxygen levels in our skin cells decrease resulting in loss of elasticity and formation of lines and wrinkles. Oxygen therapy works by replacing lost oxygen, visibly plumping skin and reducing wrinkles,’’ she informs.

Oxygen provides nutrients essential for collagen production at cellular level. It also encourages speeding up of skin cell reproduction and healing process, she adds.

Explaining about the therapy in detail, she says it is carried out with the help of a machine which is called OxySpa. ‘‘An alternative to needle injections, the system pulses oxygen deep into the skin for instant firming and plumping. The skin is thoroughly analysed by our trained therapists and a consultation form is signed by the client after understanding the expectations and concerns on the skin.

We combine the oxygen therapy with our dermalogica specialised age smart and skin brightening facial to give the most outstanding result in just one sitting,’’ she points out.

The facial follows a dedicated regime with double cleansing, safe exfoliation, non intrusive extraction, lymphatic drainage massage, Europoean massage, target treatment complex, application of three facial masks, oxygen infusion and hand and foot massage. It ends with a high dose of Vitamin C and firming spray finishing off with a SPF and moisturiser and also includes eye treatment.

While a package of six such sittings cost ` 15,600 plus taxes, a single sitting comes to around ` 3200 with taxes. This apart, the regular oxygen facial costs ` 1800, she informs.

Reiterating the benefits of oxygen for skin, beautician Baishali Moahaptra of Finesse Beauty Salon, says since with changing lifestyle, most people are late risers today, they tend to miss the fresh and natural air or oxygen during early morning time. ‘’Oxygen facial in many ways compensates for that loss while fighting ageing lines and wrinkles,’’ she points out. ‘’We use the oxygen kit of a German-based company and the procedure involves not just spraying of oxygen into the skin but also use of medicinal serums,’’ she remarks, adding, the price range of different kind of oxy facials varies between ` 2000- ` 6000.

On the other hand, a few parlours in the city also provide the regular and popular Shehnaaz Hussain Oxygen facial. Beautician Rashmi Panda of Homely Beauty Parlour informs that such a facial works wonders on matured skin and particularly brings a glow to skin that looks pale and lifeless due to reduced supply of oxygen.
