Bengali new year celebrated

The Bengali community in the Millennium City celebrated Poila Baisakh, the commencement of Bengali New Year, with traditional fervour and gaiety.

A two-day cultural extravaganza featuring presentation of famous plays was organised by the Naba Barsha Samiti at Kala Vikash Kendra here on April 15 and 16. On the first evening, ‘Gojanan Charit Manas’, a play by noted Bengali theatre personality Mohit Chattopadhyay was performed while the concluding evening on Tuesday featured dramatic presentation of Guru Rabindranath Tagore’s famous novel ‘Dui Bon’.

Justice BN Mohapatra of Orissa High Court, MLA Debasish Samantray, Mayor Soumendra Ghosh, working president of the Samitu Satyaki Ghosh and secretary Sumeet Sen were present on the occasion.
