Miscreants Loot Rs 8 Lakh

Express News Service

Only two days after Commissionerate Police introduced bike patrols to make the streets and thoroughfares safer, miscreants struck looting `8 lakh in cash from an employee of a private transport company on the busy flyover near Cuttack railway station on Monday.

Mahesh Bhardwaj, a cashier with the Mahanadi Vihar-based transport company Rajesh Road Carrier, was on his way back to office after withdrawing the money from the bank when he was robbed. He had withdrawn `8 lakh from the HDFC Bank at Bajrakabati and slung the bag on his shoulders.

Two miscreants allegedly tailed him from the bank on a bike. When he reached the flyover, the miscreants reportedly tried to overtake him. As they went past, the one on the pillion tugged hard at the bag. The clips gave away in the pull and the miscreants sped away with the bag containing the cash. A complaint has been registered with Malgodown police and investigation is on.
