Polygraph test fails to deter army doctor

Express News Service

Retired Army doctor Somnath Parida, accused of murdering his 62-year-old wife, was subjected to polygraph test at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) here on Saturday.

The Commissionerate Police, anxious to find a way around the 71-year-old accused, put him to the lie detection test at around 1.30 pm. Actually, Parida was brought to SFSL at 11 am but disruption in power supply led to delay in the process which started almost two hours behind schedule.

The results of the test will be available in three to four days. The police are also contemplating to put him to narco analysis if the polygraph test does not work in their favour. The doctor’s DNA samples are also being collected for testing.

Parida, meanwhile, kept insisting that he was innocent and did not kill his wife. Rather, he said, Ushashree committed suicide.

Interestingly, the Army doctor who has kept the cops on tenterhooks by sticking to his guns had some choicest words for the media when he encountered them outside the SFSL.
