Rayagada mega food park gets Central nod

Industries Minister Niranjan Pujari on Friday said out of 89 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed by the State Government during the last 12 years for setting up industrial units, 35 industries have started partial production.

Speaking during a discussion in the Assembly on demand for grants of the Industries Department, the Minister said the Government had signed MoUs for the establishment of units in steel, aluminium, cement, power, motor parts, titanium and oil refinery sectors. The industries, which have started production, have created 39,224 direct jobs and job potential for 41,337 persons, he added.

The Minister further said the Government has submitted a proposal to the Centre for setting up a plastic park at Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district at a cost of `85.54 crore. Besides, the Centre has cleared the proposal to set up a mega food park in Rayagada at an estimated cost of ` 104 crore.

The Centre has also cleared proposals to set up 14 special economic zones (SEZs) in the State in aluminium, minerals, information technology and multi-product sectors, he added. Besides, five of these proposals have got formal approval while four have received in-principle approvals, he said.
