Odisha’s most popular and stand up comedian Tatwa Prakash Satpathy alias Papu Pom Pom joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) after meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence here on Sunday. Several tribal leaders and workers from Nabarangpur district also joined the party.

The Chief Minister said Papu Pom Pom will prove to be an asset for the party. The actor said he joined the BJD as he liked the regional outfit.

Sources said the actor, who hails from Mayurbhanj district, is likely to be fielded as a candidate in the next Assembly election.

Papu Pom Pom had campaigned for BJD in the urban local body (ULB) polls. Odia film industry’s matinee idol Anubhav Mohanty had joined the party a few months ago.

Those who joined the BJD from Nabarangpur included former block chairmen, sarpanch, samiti and ward members. Congress MP from Nabarangpur Pradip Majhi, however, said  this will have no impact on the party’s performance in the coming elections.
