In a joint eviction drive by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on behalf of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), a liquor shop was demolished near Acharya Vihar on Friday.

Sources said private land on which the liquor shop was located was purchased by the NHAI in January. The owner of the shop was paid a compensation to shift to a new location and was notified to close the shop.  A drainage channel will be constructed in its place as the area behind shop gets inundated during the monsoon, said the sources. The shop was demolished in the presence of police personnel to prevent any untoward incident.
