The Supreme Court (SC) has permitted the DAV schools of the State to increase their tuition fees as per the recommendations of the Fee Structure Committee.

The apex court gave the verdict on Wednesday. DAV School Chandrasekharpur Principal KC Satpathy said SC had allowed the fee hike in line with the recommendations of the Fee Structure Committee headed by retired Judge KP Mohapatra.

“We will go through the judgment properly and implement the hike accordingly. We were initially satisfied with the hike suggested by the committee,” Satpathy said.

DAV Parents Association coordinator Kartik Sahu welcomed the decision of the apex court and said this time, their Association has also been recognised in the decision.

Earlier, very few parents were involved while increasing the tuition fees. “But now the members of the Parents Association, who protested the exorbitant hike first in 2009, will also be involved in the decision making,” he said.

The legal tussle between the school and the Parents Association was going on since 2009. On many occasions, the conflict between the school authorities and the parents turned violent in the past.

Even though, both the school authorities and the Parents Association have not yet analysed the SC judgment, both parties have accepted the decision as final.
