Missile Parts Fall off the Truck

Express News Service

BHUBANESWAR: A trailer truck, carrying the body parts of a missile from Chandipur, got stuck in the mud along National Highway 5 near Phulnakhara on Tuesday. It led the missile head to roll on to the road. The truck was on its way to Hyderabad.

Sources said the parts appeared to be the body of Agni III missile in which the booster and motors are integrated later. The warhead is loaded on the head that fell on the road.

Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot and helped the trailer back on the road and reloaded the body parts before the vehicle headed for its destination. “No warhead was being carried in the truck,” said the sources.

The trailer truck is believed to be heading for Bharat Dynamics Ltd, one of country’s leading manufacturer of ammunition and missile systems. “Sometimes, the body parts are returned due to metallurgical defects and this seems to be the case,” the sources added.
