Kendra Sahitya Akademi for Gopal Rath

BHUBANESWAR: Eminent poet of Odisha Gopal Krushna Rath has been selected for the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for 2014. Rath has been chosen for the award for his anthology of poems ‘Bipula Diganta’.

A distinguished jury representing 22 Indian languages had recommended eight books including ‘Bipula Diganta’ for the award. The recommendation was approved by the executive board of the Sahitya Akademi which met on Friday with the institution’s president Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari in the chair. The award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cheque of `1,00,000 will be presented to the author at a special function during Festival of Letters - the annual function of the Akademi - on March 9, 2015.

For his significant contribution to Odia language and literature, Rath has already been conferred with the Odisha Sahitya Akademi award for 2003-04.
