'Classical Status to Odia an Honour'

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed that all Government buildings in the State from block offices to the Secretariat here should be lighted for three days in view of the Union Cabinet’s approval of the proposal for classical status to Odia language.

Expressing happiness over the decision of the Union Cabinet, the Chief Minister said, “It is a matter of pride and honour for Odisha. The decision will create opportunities for more research in Odia language.”

He further said meetings should be organised in all schools and colleges so that the students would know about the language and culture of the State. He also asked the Odisha Sahitya Akademi to organise a special function to celebrate the occasion. Besides, a special issue of Odisha Review will be published to mark the occasion.
