JAGATSINGHPUR: After some miscreants hurled bombs at Alipingal sub-jail on Monday, jail authorities have sought intervention of Director General of Police, Additional Director General of Police and Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police in ensuring security of the jail inmates and employees.

Sources said two motorcycle-borne armed miscreants asked people and visitors present near the jail to vacate the place and hurled two bombs.  No casualty has been reported though. The wall and main gate of Alipingal jail was damaged when four miscreants had hurled bombs last year.

Besides, jail warden Debendra Swain was seriously injured when miscreants opened fire at him for restricting the use of cell phones, SIM cards, drugs, food and other luxury items by jail inmates.  Though FIR was lodged in bomb hurling cases at Jagatsinghpur police station, no breakthrough has been made so far.

Superintendent of Alipingal sub-jail Mirza A Beig said frequent cases of bomb explosion and firing have posed threat to the life of jail inmates. Besides, withdrawal of armed security guards has worsened the situation for which they have sought intervention of DGP and SP, said Beig.

It may be mentioned that former Superintendent of Alipingal sub-jail was arrested earlier for secretly supplying restricted items to jail inmates. Following his arrest, police had seized SIM cards and cell phones from the possession of jail inmates.
