BHUBANESWAR:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday raided the office and residential premises of top executives of Kolkata-based firm Mangaldeep Land Promoter Ltd across West Bengal and Odisha.
At least six places of Bengal and one place at Bhadrak were searched by the sleuths of the probe agency, a CBI spokesperson informed.
The CBI raided the houses of two directors of Mangaldeep Land Promoters - Ranjit Chakravorty and Manasi Chakravorty - at Kolkata. The company is headquartered at Sobha Bajar Street.
Mangaldeep is one of 44 chit fund companies which the Supreme Court had asked the CBI to probe into.
Family Alleges Murder
Family members of 32-year-old Basant Mohanty, who was found dead on April 21, have alleged that he was murdered by some of his acquaintances. A formal complaint was lodged with Balianta Police in this regard on Thursday.
Mohanty’s body was found under the Tankapani Road bridge.
Three days back, he had gone missing and his brother Prasant had lodged a complaint with Balianta Police in this regard. Post-mortem was conducted on the body by the time family members reached Capital Hospital and identified Basant.
In his complaint, Prasant said three of Basant’s friends had escorted his brother on April 18 and they may be behind the incident.
Police have begun investigation and are looking into conflict over ‘bati’ collection from passenger buses as an angle.
Man Convicted for Cheque Bounce
A Puri court has sentenced a 53-year-old local resident to a year’s simple imprisonment in a case of dishonour of cheque.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Puri convicted Jayant Das under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and asked him to pay Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the complainant Pradip Kumar Nayak.
According to case records, Das had allegedly taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh from Nayak in 2003 and a loan bond was also executed.
In 2009, he issued a cheque for the amount but it bounced after its deposit.
Das had contested the allegations saying the debt was not enforceable in law and no demand notice was served on him.
