Varsities' Steps on Vacant Posts Sought

Express News Service

BHUBANESWAR: The Higher Education Department has sought action taken report (ATR) from State Government-run universities on recruitment of faculty members.

Even as the department had approved appointment to all the vacant teaching posts in Utkal, Berhampur, Sambalpur, North Odisha and Fakir Mohan universities over six months back, no step has been taken in this regard by the universities yet.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had reviewed the recruitment process last week and expressed displeasure over vacant academic posts.

On the other hand, the State Government on Friday informed VCs of all universities except Rama Devi Women’s University and Gangadhar Meher University that Revised Assured Career Progression Scheme (RACP) is only applicable to permanent faculty and non-faculty members. However, if the universities want to implement the scheme for contractual teaching and non-teaching staff, they have to bear the additional financial burden accrued there on. Earlier, non-teaching employees of State universities had staged agitation several times demanding implementation of RACP scheme for them.
