56 NIFT Students Receive Degrees

BHUBANESWAR: At least 56 students  received their degrees at the annual convocation of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here on Wednesday. Of them, 30 students were awarded degree in Bachelor in Design and 26 students received Master in Fashion Management degree.

Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Sanjay Kumar Panda, who gave away the degrees,  said within a short span of five years, the premier fashion education hub has already established itself as a cradle for designers, managers and innovators aiming for the fashion industry. The institution offers 20 per cent reservation for students of Odisha.

NIFT Director KCS Ray said, “blending academics with industrial best practices while retaining a creative edge has been a challenge in the path of the rapidly growing fashion industry in India. NIFT is a government venture meant to address this need for well-informed and innovative designers and managers, who are also attuned to the needs of the global market.”

After the convocation ceremony, students of Textile Design department put up a design collection titled  ‘Tantu’.

Among those who received their design degree certificates, many are already employed with prestigious firms such as Encode Fabric, Biba, And Designs and Triveni Sarees.

Among others, Director, Paragon Apparel Pvt. Ltd, Roshan Baid, and the Country Head of Nike Sourcing for India, Sri Lanka & Pakistan, Atul Ujagar were present.
