Express News Service

JAIPUR: At least seven persons were arrested by Kuakhia police on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the murder of a teenager six days back. They have been identified as Arjun Kumar Pati (30), Somnath Sahu (28), Jayanta Kumar Barik (34), Manguli Behera (27), Arjun Paikray (37), Mantu Dehury (20) and Sarju Paikray (40), all belonging to Ekatala village in the district. They were forwarded to court, which remanded them in judicial custody after rejecting their bail plea.

An 18-year-old youth, Bipin Sahu of Ekatala village was found murdered with his throat slit on Thursday last week. He had gone out of his house after getting a phone call at around 9 pm on Wednesday, but did not return. His family made futile attempts to search for him. Next day, some villagers informed Bipin’s family members that his body was lying on the bank of river Kharsrota near the village. Later, Bipin’s father filed an FIR with the local police.

Police said all the accused were detained on November 5 and after several rounds of questioning, they were arrested on Tuesday.

Informing about the motive behind the murder, Kuakhia police station IIC Madhusmita Mahanty said Bipin was killed over a love affair. Bipin had developed an affair with a girl of the village and the latter’s family members had come to know about it recently. As they were against the affair, the girl’s family members decided to eliminate Bipin with the help of some villagers.

One of the accused had called up Bipin on his mobile phone on Wednesday evening and asked him to come to an isolated place near the river bank. When he arrived, seven persons beat him up, slit his throat and threw the body near the river.
