BHUBANESWAR:The immersion ceremony of Durga Puja in the Capital City will also be an eco-friendly affair. With over 200 idols - both small and big - to be immersed on Saturday, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put in place all measures as per the Orissa High Court guideline. The Orissa High Court had issued a directive to check pollution of water bodies due to immersion of idols during the festive season. BMC has created four artificial ponds - two near Kuakhai river, one each at Bhargavi and Daya rivers. Additional Commissioner of BMC Sudhanshu Samal said as per the guidelines issued by State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), four massive artificial ponds have been dug up near banks of the three rivers. After immersion of the idols, the materials will be removed from the ponds by BMC workers and disposed of properly as waste items, Samal added. ens
