Birth Centenary of Swami Chidananda

BHUBANESWAR:Birth centenary of Swami Chidananda Saraswati will be celebrated in Puri during the last week of this month. Thousands of saints, priests and devotees from across the country would participate in the three-day event which would commence on September 25.

Announcing the schedule of the ceremony, Gajapati Dibyasingh Deb on Saturday said the event will be inaugurated by Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, yoga guru Baba Ramdev and vice-president of Rishikesh Sivananda ashram Swami Nirliptananda Saraswati would address the inaugural session.

On the second day of the event, a discourse on world peace and holistic development of mankind will be organised. Representatives of all major religions will participate and deliver sermons. A special session on ‘universal brotherhood and harmony’ would follow the discourse on September 26 which would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The event would culminate with an address by Chinmaya Mission head Swami Tejomayanand. Baba Ramdev will hold yoga classes during the event.

Besides, a photo exhibition depicting stages of Swami Chidananda’s life and a book fair on devotional books and scriptures will be opened. More than 7,000 representatives from the Divine Life Society would participate.
