OSPCB to Monitor Brahmani Pollution

ANGULl: Following allegations of pollution of the Brahmani river  by industries, the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has stepped in to monitor the level of pollution. The Board has decided to instal two Continuous Effluent Quality Monitoring System (CEQMS) in the river at two points. While one will be installed upstream in Talcher town, another will be installed at Kamalanga.

 Regional Officer, OSPCB, Binod Behari Dash said Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and Bhusan Steel Limited have agreed to instal these two machines in the river.

 “The CEQMS, which will be in place within six months, will monitor water quality of the Brahmani river on a daily basis,” said Dash.

There have been allegations about the river water being rendered unfit for human consumption due to pollution by certain industries located upstream, he said.
