CUTTACK: Justice BP Ray, sitting Judge of Orissa High Court, passed away at a hospital here on Thursday evening. He was 61.
Justice Ray was ailing for some time. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Born on March 2, 1955 at Shibapur village in Jagatsingpur district, Ray received his early education in Berhampur. Later, he obtained his LLB degree from Utkal University Law College, Bhubaneswar, started law practice in 1979 and proved himself as a lawyer of eminence in the fields of constitutional, criminal civil and taxation law.
On November 7, 2007, he was elevated as a Judge of Orissa High Court and subsequently, transferred to Kerala High Court on October 27, 2010. He returned to Orissa HC on March 19, 2014.
All judges, senior lawyers and other prominent persons paid their homage to the departed soul. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Law Minister Arun Sahu expressed condolences over Justice Ray’s demise.
The mortal remains of Justice Ray will be taken to Shibapur village for the final rites to be performed on Friday.
