Locals seek tight security at Gupteswar

Express News Service

JEYPORE: Locals and members of several social organisations here on Sunday demanded before the district administration to make proper arrangement for Bol Bom devotees at Gupteswar cave temple in the wake of Srabana Yatra.

They said there was possibility of stampede in the shrine in the absence of proper security arrangement.

Sources said over 30,000 devotees across the State and neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh throng the shrine, situated in the dense forest of Ramgiri, for ‘Jalavisheka’ (offering of water) on the occasion of holy Srabana Monday.

Adequate arrangements such as accommodation for Bol Bom devotees, drinking water, sanitation and security have not been made near the temple. The devotees are facing problems while negotiating the cave temple due to lack of arrangement, they alleged.

Last Monday, there was a stampede-like situation near the temple due to heavy rush.

Jeypore SDPO R Senapati said police forces have been deployed in plainclothes while volunteers are managing the crowd.
