Express News Service

BHUBANESWAR: Body of a middle-aged woman was found under mysterious circumstances from a coaching centre in Chandrasekhapur Housing Board Colony here on Thursday. Police suspect she may have been strangulated to death.

A teacher of the coaching centre, Omm Education, has been detained on suspicion of foul-play. He first alerted the car driver of the woman who was later identified as Jaya P Sheela, wife of a senior executive of Jagjit Industries.

Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said police are quizzing the teacher Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo suspecting his role.

There was apparently a tiff between Sahu and Jaya over some matters.

Earlier, the case unfolded in a mysterious manner after the driver and the teacher were detained by Chandrasekharpur Police. Preliminary reports said the body was found from the lady’s car.

However, investigation revealed that the woman was dropped off at coaching centre around 3.30 pm.

The driver, who was waiting outside, was alerted by Sahu who said Jaya had tripped inside and injured herself. The driver went inside and found Jaya unconscious.

He and Sahu took the woman to Aditya Care Hospital where she was declared dead. When the hospital authorities informed the police, the teacher and the driver were detained and quizzed.

During interrogation, the teacher’s suspicious role came to the fore and he was detained.

Jaya’s husband Anil Rajmohan, who is an additional VP with Jagjit Industries, was in Kolkata when the incident occurred.

He flew back to the City at about 9 pm.

Chandrasekharpur IIC Dipak Mishra said Sahu tutored Jaya’s son who is a student at a prominent school of the City. Sahu used to come to their BJB Nagar home for tuition but had stopped for the last few days. “We are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause for death,” Mishra said.
