Odisha Government Nominates Swachh Bharat Ambassadors

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has nominated five noted personalities from different walks of life as brand ambassadors of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in Odisha.

A notification issued by the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department in this regard on Saturday listed eminent Odia singer Prafulla Kar, international sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik, sprinter Anuradha Biswal, woman Grand Master Padmini Rout and Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Prof AK Mohapatra as brand ambassadors of SBM.

While the flagship cleanliness programme of the Central Government Swachh Bharat Mission remains a major focus area for Smart City project, the ambassadors of SBM would engage themselves in creating awareness among the public on sanitation and garbage-free locality.

The H&UD Department would soon prepare a charter to mobilise volunteers to support the brand ambassadors in disseminating the message of complete cleanliness and open defecation free premises in urban areas of Odisha. The Centre has set October 2, 2019 as the target for accomplishment of SBM. The personalities have been informed about their nominations and Department Secretary G Mathivathanan will convene a meeting of the stakeholders of Swachh Bharat Mission to prepare strategy to implement the mission soon, sources said.
