KORAPUT: Foundation stone for a road under Mukhya Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (MMGSY) was laid by Pottangi MLA Prafulla Pangi at Maliput panchayat in Pottangi block on Tuesday.
The 3 km road will be constructed from NH-26 to Khirjhola village at an estimated cost of `1.56 crore. This is for the first time in Koraput district that a road is being laid under MMGSY.
There was no connectivity to the village since Independence and the villagers had to travel 12 km more to reach the highway.
People of three villages will benefit once the road is complete.
Recently, a hanging bridge was constructed over a rivulet and that was their only means of communication.
