ANGUL: At a time when the State Government is organising Make in Odisha conclave to woo industrialists to invest in the State, the villagers affected by JSPL have urged local BJD MP to save the company’s plant from collapsing.

The plant, which is the lifeline of the local people, is passing through a phase of serious crisis for want of raw materials like iron ore and coal for the last one year. Highlighting the woes of people affected by the plant, Praja Sangh of the company submitted a memorandum to MP Nagendra Pradhan here on Tuesday.

They stated in the memorandum that as a result of the raw material problem after the cancellation of coal block and iron ore mine, the authorities have scaled down production in many units and if remedial measures are not taken by Government at the earliest, it may lead to total shutdown of the plant.

The villagers further stated that if the crisis situation continues for more time, those employed in JSPL will lose their jobs and all developmental activities will come to a halt.

The Sangh also reminded the MP in the memorandum that it was the State Government which signed the MoU to supply raw materials to the company and it should stand by its commitments in providing raw materials and levy actual cost of water intake to bail out JSPL from the current crisis.
