Odia native, OU alumnus Sanjay Pattnaik is MD of Tata Sponge Iron

Sanjay Pattnaik has been appointed as the managing director of Tata Sponge Iron Ltd effective November 1.

BHUBANESWAR: Sanjay Pattnaik has been appointed as the managing director of Tata Sponge Iron Ltd effective November 1. He takes over from D P Deshpande who superannuated recently.

Pattnaik is currently the executive director of Tata Sponge Iron, and manages the sponge iron business. His area of expertise is raw materials, port operations and logistics solutions. He has played important roles in liaison and business facilitation programmes of the firm.

Pattnaik acquired a BE degree in mining engineering from Osmania University in 1983 and joined Tata Steel the same year. He had a long stint of 31 years in different functions and divisions of the company.

He has served on the boards of Tata Refractories and Nilachal Refractory Ltd, Trustee of Paradip Port Trust besides serving as vice-president of the Utkal Chambers of Commerce and Industries [UCCI], the national president of the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries [FIMI] and the chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry [CII], Odisha State Council.
