Centre bans ads in Odia TV channels

The Ministry has informed about the action taken on the telecast of advertisements on schemes launched by it in a letter to the SEC.​

BHUBANESWAR: The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MoDWS) has banned telecast of advertisements on Swachh Bharat campaign in Odia television channels following a directive from the State Election Commission (SEC) in this regard in view of the ensuing panchayat polls scheduled in February.

The Ministry has informed about the action taken on the telecast of advertisements on schemes launched by it in a letter to the SEC. Director of MoDWS Yugal Kishore Joshi in a letter to Secretary of SEC RN Sahu said necessary direction has been issued to the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) to stop telecast of advertisements in Odia TV channels relating to the Ministry and compliance has been received.

The Ministry has maintained that the Doordarshan (DD) has been asked not to telecast any advertisement of schemes of the Ministry in view of the order of the Commission. “We are informed by the DD that no such campaign in Odia is currently going on that attracts the order of the SEC,” Joshi said.
