ATHAGARH: A team A team of forest officials and a Professor of OUAT were attacked by a tusker in the cashew jungle of Bauda-Banakhandi near here on Tuesday. They had entered the jungle to remove a tyre that had got entangled in the elephant’s leg a fortnight back, leading to its swelling.

Prof Indramani Nath, snake helpline staff  and a team from Nandankanan tried to tranquillize the elephant at Bauda-Banakhandi, where it had taken rest. But the ailing tusker attacked them and trampled forest guard Pramod Nayak’s leg.

Range Officer Gouragopal Si said they would leave the tusker free for the next two or three days as it is annoyed. The tyre would be removed after tranquillising the elephant.
