NABARANGPUR: The low pressure-induced rains in the last two days have disrupted normal life in the district. Sources said following incessant rains, communication has been snapped in a few routes due to overflowing of small rivers and nullahs. Dhansuli nullah near Maidalpur was flowing one foot above the bridge on NH 26 which connects the district with Bhawanipatna and western Odisha. Similarly in Tentulikhunti block, a nullah between Lamtaguda and Aunliguma was flowing above two feet, thereby snapping all communication on the route.
According to District Emergency office, Nabarangpur received 66 mm rain on Saturday. However, the rainfall increased to 485.6 mm till Sunday evening. On the day, Nabarangpur block recorded 66.4 mm rainfall, Nandahandi block reported 67.8 mm, Tentulikhunti 91.6 mm, Papadahandi 47 mm, Kosagumuda 54.8 mm, Dabugam 14 mm, Raighar 30 mm, Umerkote 26.2 mm, Jharigam 46 mm and Chandahandi block recorded 41.8 mm rainfall. Though water level of Turi, Bhaskel, Tel and Angi rivers is on the rise, it is below the danger level till last reports came in.
The water level of Indravati reservoir reached 629 metres on Sunday, a tad below the danger level of 642.5 metres.Collector Rashmita Panda said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and revenue, block and health officials have been directed to remain alert. Necessary arrangements have been put in place to tackle any exigencies, the Collector added.
