BHUBANESWAR:  Rain-battered Odisha is likely to be further hit by heavy to extremely heavy showers coupled with gusty surface winds by tomorrow due to a well marked low pressure in the region.

The low-pressure area has become a 'well marked low-pressure area' over the Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand today, the Meteorological centre here said.

Under its influence, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur in most places in Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places in districts of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Maurbhanj and Balasore and heavy to very heavy rainfall in one or two places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Baragarh districts in the next 24 hours, it said.

Strong gusty surface wind from a southwesterly direction with speed reaching 50-55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast.

The sea condition would be rough to very rough, the MeT office said and advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Most parts of Odisha have been experiencing heavy rainfall for the last couple of days.
