SAMBALPUR: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) will renovate Sen Park and Bhima Bhoi Children’s Park here at an estimated cost of `82.81 lakh.

Commissioner of the CorporationBimalendu Rai said the work order has already been issued. The renovation of both the parks will begin shortly and the work will be completed within months. Construction of pathways, landscaping and horticulture will be carried out in both the parks, he added.
This apart, children’s play and outdoor fitness equipment will  be installed. Decorative lights and garden benches will also come up, Rai said.

The renovation of Sen Park will be carried out at an estimated cost of `38.58 lakh while Bhima Bhoi Children’s Park will be renovated at a cost of `44.23 lakh, he said.

Sen Park, which is one of the oldest parks of the city, is located near Peer Baba Chowk. It was one of the favourite hangouts for the city dwellers. But, the park lost its sheen due to lack of maintenance by the municipal authorities. The park has failed to attract visitors with wild growth dotting its  landscape. While majority of the light posts are lying defunct, the fountains are not functioning.
Similar is the fate of the Bhima Bhoi Park in Budharaja area of the city.
