JHARSUGUDA:  One person died of sunstroke in Belpahar of the district on Monday as blistering heat continued to throw normal life out of gear.

The deceased has been identified as Hanuman Tulangia (67) of Grindola Contatriksa village under Lakhanpur police limits. At 46 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda topped the list of hottest places in the State.

In the mining areas of Brajrajnagar, Belpahar, Bandhbahal and Banharpali people have been experiencing a few degrees more heat due to the emissions from stockyards.

“Despite such high temperature, more than 6,850 MCL workers employed in five opencast mines and four underground mines were on duty and the work was not affected, said officials of Ib Valley Coalfields.

Waiting rooms meant for travellers in Jharsuguda and Brajrajnagar bus stands have been illegally occupied by vendors forcing passengers have to wait under the scorching sun.

The district administration has announced a string of measures to help people tackle the heat. People have been asked to remain indoors between 12 and 4 pm, while all hospitals have been directed to install air-coolers in wards.
