Upgraded ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital inaugurated

While Rs 1 crore has been spent towards renovation of the ICU, a sum of Rs 7.5 crore has been expended on procurement of equipment.

CUTTACK: Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena on Wednesday inaugurated the 30-bed central ICU built at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore on the fifth floor of Trauma Care building of SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

While Rs 1 crore has been spent towards renovation of the ICU, a sum of Rs 7.5 crore has been expended on procurement of equipment.

As per reports, the 10-bed ICU was functioning at Surgery block from 2011. Though the State Government had announced to upgrade it in 2014, it took four years for the exercise.

Sources said of total 57 equipment required for upgradation of the ICU, SCB authorities have received 34 so far. The rest 23 equipment including portable X-ray machine, dialysis machine, arrow plant, 20 high definition monitors, transport ventilato rs and others are yet be provided by Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL).

The ICU, which was shifted from Surgery block to Trauma Care unit, will start functioning from Thursday. Efforts are on to provide the remaining equipment soon,’’ said the Minister.

An 8-bed High Dependant Unit (HDU) will be established at Surgery block, SCB sources said.
