BARIPADA: Even as the State Government claims to have implemented a host of schemes for development of backward section of people in rural areas, the residents of a remote village in tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district continue to struggle even for basic amenities.
The residents of tribal populated Dhadasahi village under Khatambeda gram panchayat in Bisoi block of the district have been deprived of basic facilities including road, drinking water and health care even after more than 70 years of Independence.
The village, which has 20 families, is located at a distance of only 4 km from Bisoi market. But reaching the market is an arduous task for the villagers who have to reach National Highway 49, then cross Badhunia village and again walk 3 km through a narrow forest route.A temporary bridge constructed with branches poses a major obstacle in communication during rainy season. In case of emergency, since it is not possible for ambulance to reach the village, its residents have to rely solely on bicycles.
The residents of the village do not have access to drinking water and are forced to use contaminated water from a pit for use in domestic chores.Interestingly, out of the 20 families that reside in the village, only three are eligible for houses under ‘Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana’. The other families have been pleading with the authorities for availing the facility but in vain. The village does not have a school and the children have to travel to Khatambedha village, around 3 km, for studying. Ananta Singh, a senior citizen of the village, alleged that political leaders throng the village only during elections and forget the plight of its residents once the polls are over.
