Drug mafia in jail, Boudh police on his money trail in Odisha

Going by the state government’s strategy of financial investigation of such drug money, a special team led by Boudh SDPO is carrying out searches across multiple locations.

BERHAMPUR: Boudh police is on the money trail of a local drug mafia Hrushikesh Patra who was arrested in August.

According to SP Rahul Goel, investigation and verification revealed that Patra, his associates and relatives acquired multiple movable and immovable properties from the proceeds of ganja business during the last couple of years.

Going by the state government’s strategy of financial investigation of such drug money, a special team led by Boudh SDPO is carrying out searches across multiple locations.

During house search of Patra and his relatives on December 22, several valuable documents, ornaments and other article were recovered. The search is ongoing and follow up action will be taken as per the provision under NDPS Act, said Goel

Patra, a native of Mardol under Kantamal police limits, was intercepted by police during May with a vehicle loaded with six quintal of ganja but managed to escape. Police seized the vehicle and the contraband and started a search for Patra. In August, he was arrested with a country-made semi-automatic pistol and six rounds of ammunition.

Along with the NDPS case registered in May, police slapped another case under Arms Act against Patra who is in judicial custody.
