Cold wave grips Odisha for second day; Semiliguda coldest at 6.5°C as temperatures dip across state

BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar remained firmly under the grip of cold wave for the second consecutive day on Saturday even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast chilly conditions to prevail in parts of Odisha till Monday morning.

On Saturday morning, the capital city recorded minimum night temperature of 14.8 degree Celsius, which was below normal by 4.6 deg C. Cuttack was marginally colder at 14.4 deg C, but night temperature was below normal by 4.3 deg C.

The regional met office said the night temperature was below normal by 6 deg C to 7 deg C at a few places in north-interior districts and below normal by 3 deg C to 5 deg C at many places in interior and coastal districts in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Saturday. Semiliguda was the coldest at 6.5 deg C during the period. Jharsuguda shivered at 10.3 deg C, below normal by 6.8 deg C, and Angul recorded 10.6 deg C, below normal by 7.2 deg C. Bhawanipatna recorded 11.5 deg C (-4.8 deg C) and Titilagarh 13.8 deg C (-4.9 deg C).

While dense fog occurred at one or two places in Sundargarh and Koraput districts, moderate fog prevailed at a few places in Kalahandi and interior districts on Saturday.
