Sambalpur Women’s College students object to ICC report clearing professor in harassment case

Students allege statements were misrepresented in inquiry findings; collector says independent probe by sub-collector has been completed and report sent to Higher Education Department

Express News Service

SAMBALPUR: Students of the Government Women’s College in Sambalpur on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the internal complaints committee (ICC) report which cleared an assistant professor of sexual harassment charge.

The students claimed that their statements were not accurately recorded in the ICC report which was submitted recently.

On April 9, some students of the English department had accused an assistant professor of making obscene and sexually suggestive remarks in classrooms. They claimed several instances of inappropriate comments made by the accused during classes, which they had presented before the ICC, have been omitted and diluted in the final report. Terming the report unacceptable, they demanded a fresh and impartial inquiry.

Sambalpur collector Siddeshwar Baliram Bondar said the sub-collector has conducted an independent inquiry before sending a report to Higher Education department. The students’ grievance will be addressed soon.
