AP man dies while saving two sons in Odisha's Machkund river

The two boys accidentally slipped into the river while sitting on the riverbank. Nagesh immediately jumped into the water and succeeded in rescuing both his children.

JEYPORE: A 40-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh, who went missing after jumping into Machkund river to save his two sons, was found dead beneath Shobhaput bridge under Panthulung panchayat in Nandapur block of Koraput district on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Gumadi Nagesh of Musudiput village in Andhra Pradesh. Police said Nagesh had come to the river near the Odisha-Andhra border along with his two sons, aged seven and 10, on a scooter for fishing on Thursday afternoon.

The two boys accidentally slipped into the river while sitting on the riverbank. Nagesh immediately jumped into the water and succeeded in rescuing both his children.

However, he was reportedly swept away and went missing in the strong river current.

After receiving information, Andhra police and fire services personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation. Andhra police also sought the assistance of local fishermen from the Odisha side.

On Friday morning, local fishermen recovered the body from the river using fishing nets. The body was later handed over to Andhra police.
