TIRUPUR: A hosiery unit worker died as his co-workers playfully blew compressed air into his anus here on Friday.

The deceased Mariappan, was from Thiruvaranganallur in Thiruvarur district and settled in Tirupur.

According to police, Mariappan and his friend Guru, 20, who was also from the same place, were working in a hosiery unit at Kuppandampalayam, near Veerapandi.

In the early hours of Friday, they along with Bhagyaraj, 34, another worker hailing from Karamankudi in Pudukottai district, were cleaning the machines using an electric dust remover. As they were about to complete their night shift, they were working in a relaxed manner and playfully blowing air into each other’s face.

Suddenly, an over-enthusiastic Guru and Bhagyaraj tried to blow air into the anus of Mariappan. Though he tried to prevent them, they managed to insert the pipe into his anus. As the compressed air gushed into his gut, his stomach bulged and he fell unconscious.

When their attempt to wake him up failed, they took him to Tirupur government hospital. But, he died at the hospital. DSP P Muthuraj said, “A case has been registered against Guru and Bhagyaraj for murder, and they have been secured for investigation.”
