CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Nadar Peravai on Monday announced that it would support DMK-led front in the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.
Speaking to reporters here, N R Dhanapalan, president of the Peravai, said, “Since the DMK government in the State has another two-and-half years of its term, supporting the party-led front in the coming LS Election would be helpful to fulfil the community’s various needs.”
On a question about fielding candidates in the fray to have better representation of the Nadar community, Dhanapalan said, “Though the successive AIADMK and DMK governments for years betrayed the community on various issues, we feel that the DMK-front would now understand our agony and deliver accordingly.”
Responding to a question about poll boycott by the Nadar community in the forthcoming LS Polls, Dhanapalan said, “There is no question of boycotting the (LS) polls. It is the only chance for the community to ‘set things in order’ and moreover, such boycotts would not serve any purpose.”
According to G Karikolraj, general secretary of the association, the Tamil Nadu Nadar Peravai has more than 10 lakh-registered members across the state and the one-crore people of the community has a considerable presence in all 234 Assembly constituencies.
Meanwhile, Dhanapalan said that the general body meeting of the Peravai is slated during the first week of April in the city and important decisions related to the LS polls will be finalised in the meet.
