CHENNAI: The stage is set for the launch of one more caste-based party in Tamil Nadu by the Parkava Kula community comprising Moopanars, Nainars and Udayars.
The 100-year-old Tamil Nadu Parkava Kula Sangam, which claims that the community has 50 lakh voters, is proposing to float the party with a view to striving for the welfare and growth of the community.
Chairman of the SRM group of insitutions, T R Pachamuthu, who also heads the Parkava Kula Sangam's parliamentary board is the key person behind the move.
Since election season started, several caste-based parties have been launched in the State. The Anaithu Mudaliar Vellalar Munnetra Peravai, in its rally on March 8, demanded that Mudaliars and Vellalars, including the Sengunthar and Senaithalaivar sects, be given Most Backward Community (MBC) status. The Peravai has the backing of former MP AC Shanmugam’s New Justice Party.
Aside from that, an organisation of the Gounder community, the Kongu Vellala Gounder Peravai, changed its name to Kongunadu Munnetra Peravai and its leaders even called on BJP leader L K Advani in a bid to tie up with them for elections.
